Michael Kallaur
Certified Professional Inspector
Michael Kallaur got his start in the housing market negotiating prices on windows and doors for homes in Croatia with a Team Canada diplomatic mission. He had always thought he would become a diplomat–but instead, through his work, he developed a passion for home systems and construction.
Still, he continued on in his sales career until he realized he was enjoying his weekend work better, helping friends replace ceramic floors, kitchens, saunas, bathrooms, electricity and insulation. They knew he was a good person to call when dealing with a “MacGyvered” job in their home. “I’ve seen catastrophes, and done a whole lot of research over the years to explore and find solutions to fix DIY jobs.” He found himself happy to answer questions, and do further research to find solutions and best practice methods of renovation. With the encouragement of friends and clients, he enrolled in the Vanier home inspection program, and has never looked back.
“I’m fascinated by how a building functions, breathes, the way the systems of the home work together,” Michael says, explaining that it’s so much more fulfilling than a big salary in sales. The best about part of being an inspector? “You talk about what you see as it is – you don’t over elaborate and don’t dismiss anything.” He said it’s a job where you have the luxury and the responsibility to really be thorough. “This is going to be someone’s home; you don’t make up stories and you don’t rush– at the end you can want to say “To the best of my knowledge, this is your home, as it stands today.”
When he’s not inspecting, Michael likes to tend to his garden and spend time in the kitchen, making gourmet meals for his family. Michael speaks French, English, Greek, Russian, Italian and German. Michael is a graduate of the Vanier Residential Building Inspection program, a fully insured inspector and is a fully certified member of APCHQ. He grew up in Outremont, Montreal.
Michael successfully completed the Mose Inspection Field Training Program.
