Born in England Ivan Mose (the fonder of Mose Home Inspection Services) immigrated to Canada and worked as an electrical engineer for Pratt and Whitney working on high profile military projects. “That was an exciting time for me. As a child I wanted to join the Navy, working on those ships was a childhood dream come true. Once I even got carried off the deck of a ship in a storm dangling from a 30-foot cable by a helicopter. That is a story for another day.”
After 30 years working behind a desk, Ivan decided it was time for a change, but a change to what? One day while bored and looking for things to do around the house he asked his wife what do I do now? Anne his wife who was reading the local paper said “Why not take a course on home inspection? You like to work around houses and there is an advertisement for a course right here. Great idea, he thought. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
When to Expand Your Team?
The business was slow in the beginning, but after being interviewed by the Montreal Gazette in 2006, the phone started ringing off the hook. Ivan realized he needed help, his daughter in law was just beginning her first maternity leave. “I’ll get her to help me answer the phones until things calm down” he thought. She is still working for Ivan today.
